AXB-midi interface to control Yamaha

AXB-midi interface is discontinued, but I need a midi to control Yamaha device. Any solution or hardware to replace the midi?

MIDI is nothing more than good old rs232. The baud rate is 38400. You can google the protocol. It's hex but it's not bad.

MIDI is NOT RS232. Electrically speaking MIDI is a current-loop, basically you are driving an LED in an Optoisolator. You might be able to get it to work with an RS232 port, I don't know I have not tried, but I doubt it would be reliable. For more information on MIDI protocols try the MIDI manufacturers association. http://www.midi.org/techspecs/midispec.php

As for finding an AXB-MIDI, they show up on Ebay periodically. There was also a thread about using an RS232 to MIDI converter recently.

Also, the MIDI baud rate is 31250.

I haven't used these, but they might be an option: http://www.kissbox.nl/products_new.html#midi

I've actually gotten it to work. This was with an old AXB-232 box. It may well not work on an NI's serial port. I knew the baud rate was different but it worked for some reason. As for the opto-coupling. I think I got away with it due to my cable being less than 6". Here again the AXB might have been a factor.
