Hi!
I recently bought a NI-3100/ICS and NI-4100 for learning purposes at my work at very basic level.
I know these are really old and might allready be updated.
Ive seen that there are a 4.x firmware and i wonder if that is a version that i can upgrade to?

I will attach a screenshot from web gui with version informations.

The units are allready configured to be used for LAN/ethernet.

  • yes you can upgrade the Firmware to v4. It makes sense, as a lot of Duet modules require v4 Master firmware,

Read information there. After upgrade, check it the Duet Mem is set to at least 12MB. (telnet/console, GET DUET MEM; if it's lower, do SET DUET MEM and follow instruction).

There is also still a hotfix available (afaik 4.1.430) but it is not (longer) online. I may check for it when I'm back in the office end of the week.

You may also check if the Timekeeper is still working, as it's required to backup clock and Persistent variables. I can also check for the exact part number end of the week, it's a part that can be ordered 3rd party.

The "Timekeeper" is the yellow cube on the NI mainboard.

    Thank you so much!
Ive upgraded both NI-units to 4.1.433 and also checked that the DUET MEM at least had 12M as setting and they allready had.

    Seems to work fine.

I think the TIMEKEEPER battery needs to be replaced on both of them.
The NI-4100 cant hold the time and date if i adjust them, power off and leave for a day and then come back power in again.. time and date are then wrong again. But as long as the unit is on the time and date are correct.

How do you pull it out? Cant really find any videos or instructions on that.
The 4 plastic tabs might be fragile? Do you need any tool? Do i need to have the unit powered on when replacing or can i have them unpowered?

Also, there are no newer firmware for the device itself? Its just for the Master?

    $10 and $5 Sipping: https://estore.st.com/en/m4t32-br12sh1-cpn.html?srsltid=AfmBOopS5b5fqNWF8V8gHJ2XHjMKfvn64OH4O0l_Zu6ZW3j-YqmFiQK6eS4

From the website: The M4Txx-BR12SH SNAPHAT®top is a detachable lithium power source for ST’s serial real-time clock and non-volatile TIMEKEEPER®surface-mount SOIC package (28- and 44-pin).The SNAPHAT top contains both the battery and crystal and is designed to be “snapped on” after the SOIC is surface...

And never have the power on a device when you are messing with the innards. If you can help it.
