Have you tried connecting your computer to the B&K to verify the cable is working? I have had problems caused by a cable that was shorting a couple of unused pins.

I haven't work with the REF 50 yet although I will be shortly but with the B&K CT-600 series distributed audio systems you have to go through the front panel set up for it to accept RS-232 commands, to reply to RS-232 commands and/or to echo commands sent via RS-232 otherwise its a dead port.

    Check your adaptor!

The B&K Rs-232 RJ45 is a pretty poor design IMO... "Unusued" pins seem to be connected to Undocumented places and if they are shorted things go wacko.

I used to have a tendacy to just tape off the unused pins onthe RJ45 to DB9 adapors I make... Now, I snip them at uneven lengths and tape them off so aboid this issue.

    Use ONLY 2,3,5 as well.

Right. I don't know when I'll back because the system is working ... so I'll remember that in other project!

    Thank you all! :)
