Seeking Perfect Desk . . .

OK, So I know this is an AMX forum, but I figure many of y'all are Integrators and might have run across the product I'm looking for, and may be able to help.

I'm looking for a computer desk with a rack built in to the side of it. I've found EXACTLY what I want, but its by KSI, and they want $4000 for it. Since I need . . . at least 12 of them, thats no good.

Here's what I want

Has anyone seen anything like this by a company whose furniture is actually affordable?

All of that is too involved. I'm looking for something incredibly simple, just a desk surface and a rack . . .

I would buy a cheap freestanding desk and a small rack and either mount it under the desk or freestand it under the desk.

Thats what I'm probably going to end up doing. I'd like an integrated unit because I leave these in unsupervised rooms and would like it to be as hard to access as possible, but it looks like I'll have to use a cheap desk and a small rack

You might try calling your local Mid Atlantic rep and expressing what you want. Being that you are looking for 12 units, they may be able to work something out for you and I know that Mid Atlantic can be fairly flexible.

    Just a thought,

I'd use a cheaper desk and a mid-Alantic pull out rack. If you are using a standard desk just remember to add some cooling system. MA offers some great small and very quiet fans that are thermal tiggered.

Why dont you get some regular desk, take out the drawers and use middle atlantic rack rails fastened inside?

I thought about this, but finding a desk with a 19" interior width proved difficult . . .

    I'm currently considering

    1 Raxxess ERK-12-20B Rack
    1 Bush Furniture WC14560

With the rack under the desk to the right. I might end up bolting the rack to the desk on the inside, not sure.

I was going to suggest sweetwater.com. I buy a lot of studio gear from them. They might have what you're looking for.

    I found this pretty quickly.

All the stuff Raxxess has listed on their site is like that Rolltop desk, which I dont want because my experience has been that the rolltops get busted pretty quick, and I've got enough broken furniture already.

However, I'll have to take a look at that Sweetwater link. Thanks!

This is a little less expensive than $4k and looks really cool.

It looks like you even have 4 x 3 space rack rails between the main work surface and the upper shelf.

Personally I have a Middle Atlantic Slim 5-14-26 (28.25" overall height) on one side supporting a desktop and two legs that I got from Ikea or something like that. Total price was under $300.

If you find something like the Martin and Ziegler desk for a decent price let me know because I would love to get something like that.

I guess I'm lucky, my father-in-law is a carpentor and made mine to the spec's I supplied him. Made of solid cherry and works like a charm. Have you thought of taking up wood working, it's a great way to relax after coding. ;)
