New 260 connected to computer

I just bought a new 260 and I am trying to connect to my computer.
I have no serial port and just bought a usb to serial adapter.
The adapter is installed and \"is functioning properly\", but my usb ports on my computer are com ports 9, 10, & 11. The 260 only shows that it will connect to com ports 1-8. What can I do?? Please help??

    I WENT INTO DEVICE MANAGER, FOUND THE USB/SERIAL ADAPTER, & REASSIGNED IT TO A DIFFERENT COM PORT. I THEN SPENT ABOUT AN HOUR TRYING TO CONFIGURE IT TO WORK WITH THE 260 &...................I DID IT.......IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!
