If I remember correctly the connections on the 480 were RS 485 ...you could get a usb to serial converter to use for communications. There are several "certified" units here:

I personally use an off the shelf converter my son got for like $15 from New Egg... but that was a few years ago now.

I'll alert Mike and he'll chime in tomorrow with all the pertinent data.

it looks like your only option is the serial connector you might have a bit better luck with an expresscard or PCMCIA to serial adapter or you might not i use both PCMCIA and USB adapters successfully Dennis

Sorry, been incredibly buried of late... I believe that the unit I have is Keyspan, but it's a couple of years old. The link I sent contains (other than Dennis's suggestions) all the "tested" units. I did not get a note out to Mike.. I will do so now.

  • Hi DJ123,

Yes, that Keyspan model will work. I have one here and it works great.

You could also use this USB GEAR adapter:

I have one of these here as well and is cheaper and works equally as well with our products.

    Hope this helps.

We use the Sewell adapter with no problems at all. We use it on a Macbook running Windows XP in Parrallels with a custom made 100' null-modem cable from FOH to the stage.

But I suspect there are many makes that will work well.
