Dbx286s suddenly distorted at LF

I love my dbx 286s (mic proc strip) and use it every day.
Suddenly there’s gross permanent LF distortion in active mode.
I actually have 2 of these, so I’ve been able to eliminate mixer, mic and cable problems being the source.
Has anyone experienced similar? If so what was the source/cure?
And finally, can I return this unit for UK repair?
