Newbie - can't get output Ableton

Hi,
Just purchased this mixer and I'm struggling with output from Ableton back to the mixer - and cannot hear anything through the mixer u less I press the mstr button against the relevant input.
I've got 3 inputs, using 7/8, 9/10, and 11,12 - these are assigned to 3 audio tracks within Ableton.
I have xlr master l and r going to a pair of monitor speakers.
When I use those inputs I can see the levels respond in Ableton and when I press mstr against those inputs I can hear the three instruments.
If I unpress mstr I can't hear anything.
I've set all 3 audio tracks to 11/12 master output.
Please help it's driving me nuts.

You're not mentioning the mixer; you're not mentioning how you're getting in and out of Ableton.
