notepad 12fx not working with Ableton live

Having trouble with my Notepad 12FX connecting to Ableton - have both the control panel and updated firmware. Ableton recognizes the unit in the preferences menu for routing, however when I go to select the notepad for inputs on tracks - there is no sound. Please help! Thank you.
