There is nothing official. However, one popular internal theory is Another Miller eXperiment in honor of our company founder Scott Miller. As we approach our 32nd anniversary, I would say it has been a great eXperiment so far.

I heard it was American Media matriX.
Do we get extra credit for being correct?

I`ve heard it was named after the first product (MX), and people call`d in for "a MX" please :)
It was a remote for changing slides on a slide projector.

This is a curiosity to me as well. It's certainly better than Panja. You don't know how many clients had asked me if Panja was some kind of street name for Marijuana. The only bad thing about AMX is I have to sift through a ton of AMC Pacer engine parts when searching for old AMX gear on ebay.

i guess its not American Media Matrix as AMX came into switching business after acquiring Autopatch ... prior to that there main focus was only for Control

PEZ Derived from pfefferminz, the German word for peppermint. [This one is to see if you are paying attention.]

Once upon a time, in the glossary of an old AMX/Panja catalog, it defined AMX simply as a "level of control".
