"EXTERNAL_CONTROL" keyword

Does anyone know what the keyword "EXTERNAL_CONTROL" does in NetLinx Studio? I haven't found any information about that keyword through the normal help searches in studio. Also, no tech notes have mentioned it. Has anyone used it before?

    AXCESS keyword

    This was used back in the axcess lanuguage days to gain control
    of a processor from external means.

    Refer to one of the older AMX AXCESS programming language books.
