New forum question

Hello forum demigods...

Is there a way to turn off the "Force mobile device users to use the Mobile Friendly" web interface?

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I'm on an iPad Air but the website senses iOS and defaults to the Mobile Friendly layout. This is very annoying since the Mobile Freindly layout disables screen zooming. With my eyesight I cannot read the site at all.

I can kick on the "Accessibility " feature on the iPad. But then it operates very badly. Moving around causes the page to scroll all the way over which direction yiu moved.

The website before worked fine. If this cannot be fixed, I don't know how I can continue in the forum. As it is now I cannot use it.
Thanks for,the help.

    Eric:

From what I could find, iOS doesn't have a good way to disable "force mobile ..." There was a recommendation for the Puffin browser which has a request desktop checkbox http://www.puffinbrowser.com/index.php. You might give that a go.

Well, this is the new forum huh? What was the problem with the old one again? This one is much uglier, slower, and more confusing. Light blue text on a gray background isn't readable. It appears the "New Posts" link has disappeared.

Personally I use Atomic Web Browser on IOS, lets you send almost any user agent to the world, and does a lot of other stuff much better than safari - proper tabs, fullscreen, adblock.
Has both a free and paid version available.

It might be too early for bug reports, but...

The top menu bar item "Mark Channels Read" doesn't do anything for me (on Chrome v42) - however the small text link of the exact same name at the bottom of the forums list works fine.

    This is NOT an improvement.

+ 1001. This sucks ! I went to new posts and there were 6 new posts/treads, checked out the 1st and went back to view the others and now there are no new posts and with the new format I'm not even going to try to find them so I'll just leave, come back in a day or two and hope this forum is usable.

    Agree also.

    At the moment I've noticed:

    - No "New Posts" function that I can find - deal breaker :( It's curious that you can see a New Posts link and I can't.
    - "New Topics" doesn't work

Hopefully just teething problems while they're working through the updates, but so far it's a struggle.

And auto replacement of ASCII emoticons with graphical emoticons is not working. That's an unhappy face that's been replaced with a broken link to an image. Colon, open brace.
  • Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to this important update to the software that powers our forums. While a rolling update is never 100% smooth, you will find the new forums are more secure and more powerful. Customizations that you are accustomed to, such as the "New Posts" button and the traditional AMX "skin", are not automatically carried over in the upgrade and are being rebuilt, so you will continue to see improvements over the next week. Feel free to post bugs that you find and we will take a look at them. Thanks again!

The unread status for threads is not clearing between sessions, or even after I read a thread.

    <edit> even after deleting cookies!

Marking of the channels/forums read should be good for you now. Moved tracking of read threads to database to avoid cookies.

So there's this thing called test environments...

Seriously though, good to see the forums getting some (much needed) TLC.

Umm, not when logged in as me. Unless it's been renamed to "New Topics"? I've got "New Topics" and "Today's Posts" but not "New Posts".

Same here, don't see it. It isn't visible when logged out either. Guess he only added it for the administrator group.

"New Topics" at the top provides you with the posts/threads that you have not read yet, "Today's Posts" will return everything posted today and currently the last two days.

We will tighten this up to the 24 hours soon. This was to give users a place to go back and see what has been posted regardless of whether they have read it or not.

The old today's post button referenced =?getdaily this is the equivalent +1 day

The new search system is much more advanced offering searches the old system was incapable of. 1-2 letter searches are now supported ie: IP communications would not work.

Also implementing SSL for your protection.

We appreciate everyone's patience with the upgrades and the nessicary move forward.
  • Maybe I'm just getting feeble, but didn't the old version have a search within a forum or sub-forum?

This appears to include user private messages currently... I can see (and read) PM's that people have sent to each other.

You can use the "Advanced Search" button at the top to do this.

This is actually returning "Visitor Messages" which are viewable to registered forum members. Will see if we can exclude those.

  • The new AMX Forums theme has been rebuilt, which eliminates the difficult-to-read gray background. I found that I had to clear my forums cookie to completely eliminate that default theme.

I'm starting to get used to this new version. It's just such a hard-turn change it has been a bit of a shock. It's not that it's not going to work or anything. It's just quite different. thanks for the work on it Susan.
