MI Series / Tango interoperability

We have a customer with an old MI Series multi room system that is setup as a 8x12 room solution and we have found that the expander is not switching off properly (still hear a faint hiss). Obviously these are long out of warranty and we could never find another MI Series but do you guys reckon a newer Tango expansion unit might work as a replacement to the MISeries expander unit?
