IREdit won't open after installation

Based on one other thread I found, it looks like it's very inconsistent in working. I'm on windows 11 64-bit, i've tried downloading all 3 parts of it, but when I try to open it it just gets stuck on the opening screen like :| has anyone found a reliable way to install it?

  • I've also tried downloading IREdit 2 and it gives me this error in a log file when I try to open it. I just want either of them to work.

    Traceback (most recent call last):

    File "", line 259, in load_module
    File "wx__init__.pyc", line 17, in

File "", line 13, in __load
ImportError: (DLL load failed while importing _core: The specified module could not be found.) 'C:\Program Files (x86)\AMX\IR Edit 2\wx._core.pyd'

  • Installed on my Win11/64 German without any issues, and also can start the program (can't test it as we don't have an IRIS2 yet :) ). Could also not remember that I had to install it in a special way, like admin mode or similar.

May be better to report this to Technical Support directly.

  • Omg I figured it out what was wrong for IRedit 1.3.
Apparently it wasn't "stuck" it was just trying to show me an error message, but for some reason it wasn't showing. The way I figured that out was that I went on the application in task manager, right clicked on it and expanded it, and it showed that there were 2 tasks that were trying to turn on: the loading task and an error task. I right clicked on the error task and clicked "Show" and it showed me some random ass error, and after i clicked ok on it the app turned on.

Sometimes it do be like that.

That's one of the several unexpected joys of the old IREDIT. If you leave IRL's in the open tree when you exit, they will try to reload when you run next. That's fine if the files are still where they were. Which isn't a good presumption. If they have been moved or renamed, IREDIT will helpfully tell you it can't find the files. Unfortunately, it will paste the large LOGO over the top of them, hiding them. Once you get used to this, you'll find that just hitting ENTER on the keyboard dismisses the hidden dialogs. You may need to press ENTER several times if you had a few files open.

Also beware: There is no SAVE AS. So you can ONLY save an altered file back to the same file it started. So you can't make a new saved file. There's a function that appears to be possibly SAVE AS, it's "SAVE COPY AS" which does not save the workspace... it makes a renamed clone of the original file (or as original as it is when you do this) so as to let you SAVE over the original with your changes. Backwards to every other app. Such is this historic relic.
