NXI NetLinx IR/Serial

I seem to remember that when NetLinx and the NXI first arrived 2000-2001 that using an IR port for serial control wasn't available. Does anyone else out there remember back to those days? Were the IR ports back then IR only? or am I wrong?

    Yes, the original NetLinx IR ports were IR only. So many people expressed their dissatisfaction with this, that AMX restored that functionality in a subsequent firmware release. Since Axcents and the AXB-IRS4's supported serial, quite a lot of code was extant that relied on it.
