how to listen to master offline?

adysadys Posts: 395
What is the device that I need to listen to its offline message for system nuber 5?

5001:0:5 ?

And will I get offline message in case of electric power down / network error / master stuck?

I want to give the other masters ability to work local in case that the main house master is going down...

Thanks

Ady.

  • You may check for 0:1:5
What I prefer is to create a virtual device in system 5 and checking this
    (i.e. 33001:1:5) for online/offline.

    Thanks

I didn't know the virtual device will go offline online like the master, but it make sense..

Will I get offline after a crash or network error too?
I mean do I have cycle check for offline or is it an event I must get once the master is going offline via system command ?

I want to create a kind of partial back up system if my main master is stuck

A virtual device is created (if defined in DEFINE_DEVICE) at bootup of the master in the memory. So if the master failes, the device is also not created.

If you have 2 masters connected thru URL list, every device of the remote system (panels, control ports, virtual devices, etc.) will come "online". It just matters on programming if you do some action on the DATA_EVENT..ONLINE of them or not. If the network connection get lost, all the remote devices will go offline after the IP timeout (about 45 secs).

You can have online/offline events for the remote masters themselves, it works; in this case, looking for an offline for 0:0:5 would be the best (putting 1 in the port implies a connection on that port, not the master itself). I don't think, in practice, there is any difference in doing that or tracking a virtual the same way. I tend to go with the virtual just because I already use a virtual to send messaging between masters, and it's conveniently already there.

I too use the 0:0:5 (or whatever) device for sub masters. I like to give them a device name (something like Submaster_1 = 0:0:1) in the main program. Then I map that submaster's program file so it's easy to upload remotely. (from outside the firewall) I also put in a DATA_EVENT: offline and log when the device went away and came back. it works quite well but for some reason, Netlinx Studio gives the file an old TP3 icon???

I made it with a virtual device that all other masters allready know (some status cmd notifier) and its working like magic

now if the main central master is going down, all TPs are going into LOCAL Mode so the user can work with its local systems in every room.

    Thanks
