NXD-CV7 Problem

Anyone else out there having problems with their CV7 locking up? The symptoms the touch panel is experiencing are as follows:

1. The Video video feed from the AVB is wavey like the horizontal hold is off slightly.

2. The external buttons don't respond (not even the middle one with the sensors that allows access to the config pages.

3. The buttons on the touchpanel function properly

4. Unplugging the power, waiting a minute or so and reconnecting power seem to fix it.

I talked with tech support and they indicated that there is a new firmware file that is supposed to be released on Monday. The person I talked with was not sure if the problem will be corrected by the update, but that is the current suggestion. I was just wondering if anyone else is having problems in hopes that someone had the problem and already found the cause or atleast a temporary work around.

Thanks,
Jeff

    Jeff,

We installed 12 CV7 panels in a hotel recently (combination of table-top and wall mount units). They have all performed well with the exception of one which suffers from the same symptom you described above regarding the external buttons - particularly the one used to access Setup.

The panel itself works fine so it has not been an issue for the customer but for us, as installers, it is a pain. We power the panels remotely and we do not have convenient access to simply power them up and down to reset them which fixes the problem - at least temporarily. I generally use Studio Device Control to send a SETUP command to the panel to get it into the setup pages since power is not a good option for us.

I have not observed the video window problem you are referring to since we do not use that capability but we have consistently experienced the external button problem you noted.

My perspective is that since it is 1 panel out of 12 that has been exhibiting the problem is that it is hardware and not something likely to be fixed by firmware. Of course, if it is fixed by a new firmware release, that would be great. We probably won't get around to uploading new firmware to the panels in the hotel since we have about 40 of them so let me know if you try the new firmware version and it solves the problem.

I will try to let you know when I feel confident that the firmware has fixed the problem. Just one question, is there any chance that the one panel that is locking is configured any differently from the others? The possible cause that seems to keep coming up between tech support and myself is the possibility of a memory leak caused by sounds.

Thanks for any info and I'll keep you posted on the firmware update.

  • NXD-CV7 Problem

    Jeff,

The one CV7 panel we are having problems with is one of seven panels located in Spa Treatment rooms in a hotel. All of the panels have the same TP4 file loaded on them and are configured identically except of course for the IP address and Device ID (they are all connected to the same Master). We do not use video to the panels and no audio is presently used so audio file memory leaks which has been a problem with some panels should not be an issue for us.

As I said in my earlier post, the panel works fine except for the external buttons. We can reset the panel or power cycle to the panel and the button works but only once or twice before it is back to the same state. When the external buttons cease to work, it seems to have no effect on the touchpanel operation itself since the customer is able to use the panel just fine for all operations. Since we did not program any functions on the external buttons for now, this has only been an issue for us as installers.

I suppose it could be firmware but we have been leaning toward a hardware problem specific to this panel. I know that the 2.46.xx firmware upgrade for the Modero and CV7 panels to be released soon has a number of fixes for video image and sound file handling but we don't use those features on this panel. That is why we have not really counted on a firmware release to fix the problem but I will be interested to see if your problem is fixed when you upgrade.

    Thanks --

Thanks for the detailed info. I'll be heading out today to try the firmware so I should know within a week or so if it has any effect. The reason for it taking so long is that the panel I'm dealing with doesn't lock the external buttons after a few presses, it seems to happen after a days. On the other hand, it may be that my panel is using less memory and has more room to leak before affecting operation. With that in mind, I'll try repeatedly pressing the external buttons and see if I can cause the problem to occur. I'll let you know what I find.

I have 2 CV7 panels for our demo rooms. The problem seams to appear after a while (like 1 to 2 months of use) video problem and front setup button not responding.
I spoke with technical support the previous week but I got the same resoult. Some firmware will be released.

There is a problem but for me happens only after 1 to 2 mounts of usage.
It is the same with you?

    Thank you.

    Bogdan,

I am not sure about Jeff's situation but we noticed the problem very shortly after installation occurred - probably only a week into Installation testing and before the customer really began to use the panel. As I said though, this is the only panel of about 12 on which this problem has occurred.

Well, I installed the beta firmware (according to agreement I'm not sure I should even say that). I also turned off the button hit/miss sounds. The problem was appearing after about a week on our panel. I almost wonder if AMX didn't get a bad batch of memory? something where just a small chunk of the ram isn't fuctioning properly. I used to work at a computer store and we had one batch of memory that "seemed" to work but every computer that had some of it would lock up unexpectedly at random. After much troubleshooting, we narrowed it down to the ram. The quick scan on our memory tester didn't find anything, but an extended stress test did find the problem.
I am not sure that this could even be the problem here, but I felt like typing so I shared it ;)

As for the firmware solving the problem, I should know in a few days if the panel is still locking up. If it doesn't I'll enable the hit/miss sounds and see if the problem reappears.

  • I don't know how relevant this might be, but I had a NXT-CV12 at a customer site that locked up in much the same way you are reporting. After talking with tech-support I was told it was due to the button sounds created by the panel. I have disabled the sounds and the customer has not complained since.
