Well it finally happened, we broke the glass on the front panel. This is the first time in over 13 years I have seen a broken glass. I just looked at it and the first thing I noticed was how thin the glass was compared to the CV7 panels that we normally use. Has anyone else had problems with the glass on these smaller panels?

Nope - haven't broke the glass. They seem pretty strong but . . . how'd you break it?

I've seen only one and it had been shot by a BB gun. (admitted by the customer.)

I tried to warn him that he'd put his eye out...

That's why you shouldn't make bulls eye pop ups! Or did you made an animated duck that moved across the screen?

I have not had any problems thus far with any of the in-wall touch panels. I have had a few problems with the MVP-8400s tho. I had one client sit on his... AMX was able to replace the glass (for a fee :) ). I have also encountered a couple of mysterious panels that just seemed to fall apart in the users hands .... it's crazy, must be the aligning of planets ;). After a little gentle questioning, it normally comes out that the panel might have been "dropped" by the kids (read thrown in a temper tantrum by the adult). Surprisingly, most of the time, I simply remove the batteries, disassemble and realign the pieces, then reassemble the unit and everything magically works again :)

I do have a couple 5 inch panels installed in a hot-tempered clients house, so I will let you know if anything similar occurs, but he mainly uses an MVP-8400 that gets accidentally dropped by the kids on occasion.

Must be nice to have that kind of money to throw around a several grand panel. I wouldn't even dare through my Harmony remote in a rage!

We also had a client sit on a 8400 and thought that it should be covered under warranty. I dropped a 8400 on the carpet (with padding) in my home and it cracked the glass, repair was around $800.00.

Seeing as how were on the subject of glass the DMS MIO keypads are easily subject to glass breakage upon installation.

The right side of the glass is exposed and not protected by the circuit board or other parts that protect the majority of the glass. Because the glass is exposed and if you get into a situation where you need to use woods screws and not the toggle provided or if you install the toggle provided in two screw holes that are not really intended for the toggle you may risk breaking the glass when snapping the keypad onto the back box. If you're mounting into wood paneling and using small wood screws in order to get a good bite into the wood because the holes are so close to the side of the box which means the screws have to bite into the edge of the wood which usually just isn't possible you may be temped to angle the screw slightly away from the edge but if the screw head sits up to high again you will likely break the glass when trying to snap it it.

This is a kown issue with TS because if you issue an RMA for the broken glass they'll immediately ask you if you used the correct screws and if you used them in the correct manner. This is when you take a closer look and realize mechanically what a very piss poor design it has! A designed accident waiting to happen.

I suspect that the glass had a flaw in it from day 1. I used it on my desk for several months and just had it installed last Thursday. I used it myself to do some testing and no problems, then my boss just touched it with his finger and felt it break. There was no abnormal preasure or weapon attack on the unit.

    NXD-CV5 glass

I did recently receive a panel with crack glass out of the box from AMX.

AMX promptly processed an advance replacement.

I havent gotten these small panels integrated onsite yet, so I have
my fingers crossed that they will endure continual usage by the client.
