DVR with time date search

I have been using some older security dvr's that allow for individual time date search. I use these with an amx control system to allow users to automatically playback certain events whenever they want via touch panels and keypads.
However the problem I am finding is their are no new devices that specifically have time date search in their rs232 control.
If anyone has used a device like this that allows for specific time date search via rs232 as well as proper feedback for play, record and all the usual options. I would be interested.
