Discrete Power Commands for XBox 360?

Does anyone happen to have a working discrete power on/off code for the Xbox 360? I found a set on Remote Central but it doesn't seem to work.

These are the NON-FUNCTIONING CODES:
Power On (NOT WORKING):

  • You can do fake discretes by using the dashboard button for power on and using dashboard, delay, power toggle for off.

The big X button will act as a discrete on. For "on", just pulse that ... for "off", pulse the X, wait 10 seconds (or so, you can tweak the timing), then pulse the power toggle.
  • Thanks guys! I didn't know the X button acted as a discrete ON. From now on I'm going to have to play with the game systems for a while before I try to program for them ;).

  • O.K.. So what channel is the friggin' Big X button? I'm using the AMX .irl file MICROSO0.IRL. and none of the functions is labelled as BIG X or Dashboard unless I'm just not seeing it. Man I'm feeling like a n00b. Could it be channel 44, DVD_Menu?

  • You probably have the original X-Box codes...not the X-Box360.

Nevermind...I just opened their 360 file and...No Big X button. They do not have that button assigned.

I can't tell if this is the same or not, but it's one I've been using.

    Good Luck.

I just captured it last I needed it. File attached.
  • For the record - it's called the guide button. :)

  • I just found out from our client that our power on/off control has not been working consistently on the xbox 360 we installed a year and a half ago.

For those of you using the "Big X" button or guide or dashboard or whatever it's called for discrete power on, have you had any trouble with it going out of sync? Some testing with it seems to indicate that occasionally it will get out of sync and someone will have to manually turn the box on for it to get back into sync, but it will get out of sync again after a period of time.

    Thanks!

I just finished a job with four of these and on/off is working but I don't have discretes. If you have the Microsoft.irl file on the AMX website, use the 'start' command (116) to turn it on, and then 'start' then 'power' (9) to turn it off. It hasn't failed me yet.

I've only actually done it once, and I do recall having to mess with the timing now and again. But that particular customer passed away, and I haven't needed to revisit it.
  • Thanks for the tip Paul, and thanks Dave for posting the .irl when I needed it too.

I read something about a toggle bit that changes on the xbox which might cause power on/off to stop functioning from a learned IR code. Not sure how much merit it has though. I'll rewrite my power functions to use channel 116 and I'll report back how it works out for our installation.

Here is the file I use. It contains discrete power on and off for the Xbox 360. As a note, they are toggle bit commands so I always send each twice to guarantee the xbox responds.

Would anyone have the codes for the XBox 360 universal remote? This is needed to go to discreet TV stations (favs) on a Windows Media Center PC when being controlled from an XBox. I don't have one of these remotes to capture IR from.
