Netlinx Studio - Integration ???

Netlinx keeps track of where are our touch panel files and our IR files, for example.
But it really does not integrates anything since we still have to use other softwares to manage our TP and IR files....

So what is the advantage of adding my TP and IR files to the project ??? Isn?t it just more work for us ??

Sincerely,
Andr

    Hi Andr?,

It?s used to manage a project and keep all pertinent files together. The ?device mapping? allows you to download all files via Netlinx Studio instead of opening up the TPDesign programs and IREdit. With the ?other? tab in the project workspace you can add notes to your project and/or user manuals of the devices you are communicating with for quick reference. If you want to work on any TP or IR files, all you need to do is double click the file in the workspace and the appropriate program will launch.

The files that you add to the project should match the devices you have defined and it?s a great reference for making sure everyone is accounted for. I don?t find adding the files to a project any extra work at all. The project defines the system.

You can export a workspace and give it to someone else to work on and you can also do a backup of your project. The workspace/project is the same thing that you?ll find in other IDEs for high level languages like C++ or Visual Basic. Personally, I wouldn?t do it any other way.

    Cheers,
    Joe
  • Thanks for your reply!

I have worked with Visual C++ for one year and a half and unlike Netlinkx, everything inside the project was editable within Visual C++!

One non Netlinx doubt is: How can I end some thread, a letter, ....? WHat's the best way to do that? Sincerely, Cheers, Hugs, ???

    Cheers,
    Andr

You can double-click an item in the Workspace tree and open the file with the appropriate program. Due to the vast difference in file types, and the large overhead of applications like TPD4 and IREdit, it's just as well they are seperate programs, and this level of integration is perfectly adequate, IMO. Combining them all so they could be opened by NetLinx studio would create a monster, and some older computers would just barf on it. Visual Studio really dose the same thing, it just runs helper applications within it's own windows, making them appear to be part of the studio, but in fact they are not. That much is just eye candy really. As I recall, NetLinx Studio is just a branded and specialized version of Visual Studio anyway.
