Off Forum Topic - Escient E40 (HELP!!!)

Okay, I've searched high and low for some help on this before asking on here. I personally just got an Escient E40 (old job, client didn't want it - so they said pitch it), and I'm trying to update the darn thing. It keeps locking up though. Escient support was able to get me the 2.1.3.42 files that I needed to burn, and load it up with: still no dice. So I was able to get my hands on a couple of different 2.0.2.4 files that I could burn and try loading up (the SW ver. it had on it when I received it). That worked. Now, whenever I try to update the piece beyond 2.0.2.4, it completely crashed. I don't have it perminately set up, and is just sitting next to my PC hooked up to the VGA input of my monitor.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions, files, links, etc. on getting this old thing up to the newest software? I have a ton of music (in digital format) that I want transfered on to it, but have no way of doing so unless I update. Also - does anyone thing that I could load up a 300GB hard drive in it and load the software on to that? (I guess there's no harm in trying.) But just thought I'd ask before I get knee deep in shi.....errr....mud. ;)

Thanks!

There are a lot of Escient users on this site that can probably help you out.

The Escients are notorious for hard drive failures, and not necessarily complete ones. A bad sector will cause irratic behaviors, and sometimes very bizarre ones. Give Escient (800-372-4368) a call; they have a good tech support. There is a log file you can access through the browser interface, but the URL varies by model and firmware revision ... they can talk you through how to access it. Last one I looked at was a lot of gibberish, but they can sort all that out.
