AMX Modera via Wireless LAN

Hi All,

We have an AMX Modera panel which connects wirelessly to the AMX wireless access point and into the system.

We want to connect the panel to our building wireless LAN (the one that PCs connect to), and back to the system. Has anyone done this, if so, any guidance on what needs to be configured and how to get the data from the panel through to the system?

Thanks,

Peter

    Hi Peter

This is a very common setup.

Basically you will need to obtain 2 static IP Addresses from your Network Administrator (1 for the Touch Panel & 1 for the Netlinx Master) providing you have good WLAN access on you business network you can remove the AMX WAP unit.

You will also need to know the security settings for the business WLAN - you may need to upgrade the firmware on the Modero Panel, to allow more advanced security settings such asWPA-PSK or various EAP

    Hi Jim,

Thanks for the note - very glad to hear we're not the first ones trying this out!

I can get the IP addresses easily, and we have the firmware to allow us to use WPA-PSK.

In terms of the physical cabling, can someone confirm that the Netlinx Master just needs a Cat6 cable to the nearest network point? I'm assuming that once it's all set up, the data goes from the touch panel to the wireless access point, and is then routed through the network cabling to the network port next to the Netlinx Master, and through a Cat6 cable between the network port and Netlinx Master.

    Thanks,

    Peter

    Basically yes,

The Netlinx master needs a CAT5/6 cable to a free port on your business LAN Network Switch (via your building structured cabling)
Your business WLAN network is already connected to this same Switch.
Your Touch Panel connects to you business WLAN and so to the same Switch and so in turn to the Netlinx Master.

As long as the touch panel is told the IP address for the Netlinx Master (or you are confident there are no other Netlinx systems on the same network) in its System Settings, then all will be good.

Depending on your security settings on your network - you should inform your admins that the system will be using port 1319 - just in case its been restricted between your WLAN & the wired network.

    Cheers
