NI Remote software update over the net (NI instigated)

Hi all,
We have 100 odd NI?s going to be installed, each have internet access.
I was wondering if there was a way in code to upgrade the TP files and the NI code from the net.
This needs to be instigated from the NI controllers.
Is it possible to get the NI?s to access a FTP page and download the new NI token file and the new TP file and then upload the TP file to the touch screen, then install the new token file on the NI?

Regards
Craig

You can access your Master's restricted files through FTP but beware, one false move and your master is dead. So I would think it's very possible to replace your program file during runtime and reboot into the new program. There's no TP FTP access AFAIK so that would have to be done manually.

That seems a convoluted way to go about it .. if you can FTP, why not connect with NS on port 1319 and just load the files normally? I do it regularly. Also, using standard file uploads won't crash and burn your master if the process gets interrupted. You can also load panel files with either Studio or TPD connecting to the master this way. Panels are a little more finicky though, and I have had bad connections scramble a panel. If it's a solid connection though, there is no problem with it.

Ftp'ing does sound a hard way to go about this, though this was the only way i could think of doing it.

We have true VPN installed ay each site for remote diagnostics. So connecting to the NI's are not to much of an issue.

I was hoping that the NI's would have some thing built in. I was trying to save a lot of time in upgrading the code/tp designs as we have to change all 100+ units at a time.

    Oh well.
