I should have stated that I did goto this site http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin...c&dv=dvdplayer and loaded he discrete codes in IREDIT (using that Hex code button) then I pasted and tried right there in IR Edit to see if it works and it did not. I guess one of the possibilities could be there just isnt a discrete code. So I guess that begs the question, do all devices like a DVD player havd discrete codes?

It's rare to find discreet codes for sources. The mfg probably has them but doesn't for unknown reasons publish them.
Contacting the mfg rarely gets you anywhere. I usually find them from various other control system companies or from this forum.

Not to sound condescending (sp?) but, did you also remember to upload the new IR file into the IR port after copy/pasting/saving? I say this because I've done this before many times. You have to copy/paste in and then remember to hit save. Then after that make sure to upload it to the NI's IR port.

I'm only saying this because I've shot myself in the foot many times doing the same thing.

I have yet to see a DVD player that you couldn't use the play command to turn on. So that becomes your discrete "on," and you can do a play, wait 5 seconds, then power toggle for an off. You may have to play with the timing some, but I have had good success with it.
  • We had a Sony DVD/VCR combo working on a different Remote ID that wouldn't work with any discretes or a play command to turn it on. In that case it turned on with an open/close tray command.

Dave, using the PLAY command for Discrete ON worked. So I just use the normal POWER for discrete OFF.

    Thanks

You could, but there is always the possibility of someone turning it off manually, and then you would be turning it on instead of off in a shutdown. One thing to avoid that is just leave it on and send a stop on shutdown, but what I usually do is send a play to make sure it's on, wait however long that model needs to fire up, then send the power toggle to shut it off. It delays shutdown by the length of that wait, but it's not usually too bad.

Try these, they are different from the remote central codes:

    Power On:

    0000 0070 0000 0032 0080 0040 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0AB7

    Power Off:

    0000 0070 0000 0032 0080 0040 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0AB7
