Anyone NOT Using R4 Queing Module?

Greetings,

I'm curious if anyone has been using the R4 without the queing module that has been made available by AMX.

I am at home and haven't had any problems, though there isn't a great deal of dynamic information being sent to the remote at the moment (mainly just normal button feedback). If I run into problems, I'll probably roll my own comms module.

I've only done a couple R4s and did not use any queing module (didn't know there was one). As with Auser, I have very little feedback to the "panel". The only out of the ordinary thing I do is prevent the volume from ramping for more than 3 seconds to prevent the runaway "no release" condition.

Ditto. I just remembered that I've got a couple of systems in the wild using R4's. Didn't use the queue module with them either and they've been rock solid. Aside from a "normal" amount of channel feedback, I'm only sending half a dozen feedback strings to the panel though.

I took it out of the one project where I was using it because it didn't seem to be needed, and made an already sluggish system even more so. I haven't had any trouble since removing it.

Is there any way to quantify how much data wold make the R4 queing module necessary?

Would several variable text commands of thirty+ caracters kill the R4?

I have both used it and not and the only difference I have seen is that with it in feedback is a little slower to show up on the panel due to the buffering. My first R4 job was with a Kaleidescape system and I had lots of meta data going to the R4 and it seemed to do quite well.

Last night I removed the queing module from my home system. Everything improved. Escient Fireball metadata didn't choke it up.

I guess I finally answered my own question. ;)
