Denon DCM-390 Power On?

Has anyone had a DCM-390 that responds with a string when sent the power on command? I've run across several things writing this module that don't jive with the manual and the last one I haven't figured out is the power on command which doesn't return a string. According to the manual it should return STX,$4E,$20,ETX,Checksum H,Checksum L) I could just test my string by 1st sending it the power on command which shouldn't return anything, wait the obligitory power on wait time and then send the power on command again to get a power on "condition error" $4E,$34 (because it's already on) to set my variable, but I don't want too!
