Can't connect to master on VPN connection

I set up OpenVPN at the office, where we have a master. [OpenVPN-AS is really easy to set up by the way]

I was really surprised when the VPN worked from home on the first try. Almost.

I can browse to the web interfaces of and ping all the devices in the office with their LAN IPs, including the AMX controller, but I can't connect to the controller in Netlinx.

Any tips?

Do I need to bother doing this? Can I just forward port 1319 to the controller's IP? I just want to be able to debug/test code from home!

If you can connect to the browser interface but not the control port, the port is being blocked. There must either be a firewall blocking it, or Open-VPN has a default setting that is blocking it (most likely, I would think, it probably only opens common ports by default).
