Not able to firmware update a NXI-ME260

bobbob Posts: 296
Hi there,

using the latest firmware v2.31.139 to upgrade one NXI-ME260 and of course folowing the TechNote at http://www.amx.com/techsupport/techNote.asp?id=613 I couln't get to load the fourth file. I always get an error ("Transfer aborted - unsupported file type") after the third file is loaded. I have tried rebooting in between, loading over a serial cable, over TCP/IP, etc, as to no avail. Any clue? Loading with Netlinx Studio.

I have upgraded two other NXI-ME260 and they did just fine. Had to load the FW files a couple of times but in the end they got to load the fourth file and have now the latest firmware. The last NXI-ME260 just don't want to get to the forth file of the firmware upgrade.

Any clue what I may try out?

    No one had this before?
  • If it's a "real" ME260 (serial number starts w/ 201060), it's not possible to upgrade it to Duet firmware (v3.xx).
Only the ME260/64 (201064) can be upgraded to Duet.

To what firmware do you want to upgrade?
  • If you had a program in the master previously, especially if it was a large program, it can take up too much of the spare memory, so that the master cannot fully download the copy before doing its internal reconfiguration. If this is the case, then load a blank program (or very small program) into the master and try the firmware update again. I've had this happen before with NI-700's that have limited memory.

Yes, there is an old program in there. I have not bothered to delete it and have not looked into it how large it is. Thanks for the tip!

Just disassembled the ME260 from the NXI in order to a look at its serial. It starts with 201060. There is a 16MB CF card in there. The ME260 is FG2010-60 REV A4.
I am trying the put firmware v2.31.139 which according to AMX is for both the original ME260 and the ME260/64.
  • Maybe the CF is too full (lot of webcontrol pages?) for downloading the final part of the firmware. It may be required to erase the webcontrol folder, either manually by ftp, of by doing a CLEAN DISK from terminal/telnet (Warning! This will erase all webpages AND the program. Do at your own risk!)

The card you have is not possible to be upgraded to Duet firmware (v3.xx).

    Hi guys,

I erased the CF card by entering CLEAN DISK. It got erased (some files removed). DISK FREE shows me:
The disk has 10092544 bytes of free space.

Tried to load the firmware again without luck. I erased the program from the master and loaded and empty one. Tried to load the firmware without luck again. I can only load the first three parts of it. Then it waits a couple of seconds and then showing me "File 4 of 4" still the same error "Transfer aborted - Unsupported file type". I am of course rebooting inbetween.

I am kind of clueless.. Any more hints which I can try out? Below the output of SHOW SYSTEM:

Very interesting. I swaped the CF 16MB card with one from another ME260 (same model and revision, already upgraded to this firmware revision) and now the 4th file went through! Any clue, as I was able to delete from and write to the old CF card!!

Now SHOW SYSTEM shows me the following:

    Resolution

I just compared both CF cards and noticed that the "user" directory is empty on the card where the update wasn't possible. It contais some .asp and the like (remaining after CLEAN DISK). Mirrored the "working" card to this one and now I am able to update the firmware on the ME260 again and again.

    Thanks for all the help!

    edit:
After imaging the CF card I had to set the system number again in Studio (as it reverted to default 1).
