Weatherproofing a keypad?

Has anyone ever considered taking a MET-6N key and dipping it in liquid electrical tape or coating it lightly with a silicon caulk to try and make it water resistant? I am wondering if there are any heat issues, or other issues I should be aware of. Basically, the keypad resides in a weatherproof box, but it is not working well enough. I don't know if its condensation or sprinklers or gardeners, or what, but some water got in and was causing repeated button presses and releases.

Just kind of thinking out loud before I really look at attempting this mod :)

I don't how well that would work. Maybe if you got a spray can of teflon or silicon so that the clear liquid electrical tape wouldn't adhere to the buttons and flow into gaps but instead form a mask you might get lucky. I don't think heat would be an issue if this actually worked.

If you figure anything out please post your solution.

Maybe some type of Elastomeric sealer would have possibilties.

We have a few outdoor touch panels. They have kind of a checkered past.

In this case we did the CP4A in wall G3s. They are on the 3rd floor of a large house on the beach. So, they get pelted with sea air and salt. They are on a covered porch so they don't get direct rain.

We've had all 2 of the two there fail for various reasons. One being damage from over zelous power washing. So, that doesn't really count in my mind.

The other has failed for more sinister reasons. In both cases is seemed to have more to do with the poor thing having to deal with repeated moister problems due to condensation. This has lttle to do with the over-all 'water proofness'

All this to say, it sounds kinda kugy to me.
