Service charges

Hey guys,

Just wondering out loud on you opinion with some the services we do after factory repairs. Do you charge for pulling and/or reloading Tp's and Masters after they go and come back from factory repairs. Also do you charge customers for updates like changing logos? Trying to figure out are we giving or services away or not.

Thanks

Brian

We warranty all our work insofar as 'our product' goes. In other words, If what we installed/programmed is not working (or wasn't working at the time of install) we cover that. So, for example: If I wrote some code that didn't work but we didn't find out about it until some time later, we'd cover that.

However, if we have signed off on a project, anything the client wants to change/alter/modify is charged. We're dealing with a lot of that right now as a lot of clients are upgrading from DVD plaers to BluRay or adding in Netflix players, Apple TV, etc...

It varies from vendor to vendor, some vendors will reimburse you some part (if not all) of the labor to change out their gear if it is warranty work.

However, you didn't get into this business to work for free. The less you do of that, the more you'll like it.

    Eric,

Your right, it's get gray when you have Systems/Project warranty, Mfr's warranty sometimes the customer get them confused. But were are doing the same as you, Install/test and get signoff.

When we contract a new job, it includes a year's worth of service for anything other than a major equipment or functionality change. Upgrades, program tweaks, fickle customer preferences are all covered. After the year is up, we will often still cover firmware upgrades and simple re-installs after a repair, but not necessarily. After the one-year "warranty," our hourly rates apply. Of course, such service has to be figured into the contract price right from the start, or you will lose your shirt.
