Inexpensive RS232 (only) discreet volume control?

I'm using some MOXA N-Port units to control projectors and switches in remote areas over an IP network. This works great except that the volume control in the projectors (Epsons) is +/- only, and does not allow me to set or get specific volume levels. The users want precise feedback on current volume levels, i.e. the volume slider bar.
I can sort of fake this knowing the projectors always power on at X volume level, but I can't seem to really keep the panel in synch with the actual projector volume. I'm looking for an inexpensive solution - like the AMX VOL3 - but which runs on RS232 control because that's all I've got coming out of the MOXA boxes.
Any ideas out there?

The Extron MVC-121 would be a good solution.
