Serial Clock Display

Hey - can anybody recomend a clock display that can be used for a countdown timer? I need serial control. I have one product that is IR controlled, it is a nice big (14 x 8") LED clock thing that I can trigger to be a countdown timer and set the time on - but the IR control is kind of stupid for something like that. So I wanted to switch to serial control and just drive it from a timeline.

  • Applied Technical Systems (ATS), in Louisiana, makes digital clocks that are RS-232 controllable. They last for years and the interface is fairly easy to control. I believe that the clocks have an internal countdown timer, although it's been a long time since I've tried using that. You can always just update the clock once a second to just display text (numbers) that countdown, but I'm fairly certain that you can define the start time and then send a trigger and the clock will do it internally.

Good stuff that's also priced right.

    Their website is: www.ats-usa.com

Thanks - those units look good. I like the multiple sizes as well.

I'm gonna run them from a timeline triggered internally.

Other than display, is there a reason you don't just do it from the AMX system?

Must have been typing too fast and thinking too little. What I meant to say was I will be driving the display from a 1 second timeline running in teh AMX. not triggering the clock and letting it runnon it's own.

That is what I have now with a clock/countdown timer. but it is IR controlled, so I go through a sequence to pulse IR codes and set the length of time on teh clock, then pulse the start command.

I was looking for something I could drive directly from the AMX hopefully to resolve some odd timing issues I'm having.
