Panasonic TH85PF12 Plasma RS232 Protocol

Hi, Anyone, I tried to control a panasonic TH85PF12 plasma by RS232, i only connect the TXD,RXD and Ground to the AMX controller, will it work? Do I have to short pin 7 and pin 8 to make it work? It is hard to remove the plasma from the mount now, can I short the pin 7 and 8 at the AMX controller side? (only 3 wires from the AMX controller to Plasma).
