Samsung Syncmaster

We've taken over (and upgraded to Netlinx) an old Landmark job. The client has two older Samsung Syncmaster 150MP TVs. They fit perfectly, so replacing them is a definite last resort.
The problem I'm having is control. I have the IR file, and all the links in the chain are working fine, except that I can't control the TVs. The client said the previous company had to add SAM-IR boxes to get them to work. I've pulled Landmark SAM-IRs out before (mainly for Marantz) and controlled the devices with a Netlinx NI without any problems. I'm just wondering what makes these TVs special.
Has anyone controlled this TV via a Netlinx system before?

I'm also wondering if Samsung TV's can be controlled by RS232 using the the 3.5mm "service port"?
Thanks,
Eric
