Connecting to Wiegand Interface

Hey all,
Does anyone have any experience connecting AMX Master's to Wiegand-compatible card readers? I've seen adapters online which convert Wiegand protocol to RS-232, which obviously would work fine, but i'm curious to know if it could be done using a NetLinx Master's IO ports. The protocol specification for Wiegand says that it simply uses twp High (+5v) and Low(0v) lines with a ground. It seems that two IO ports on a master with the right code written could interpret the Wiegand.
Does anyone know if this would work, or have Wiegand experience altogether?
Thanks,
Brooks
