TPControl or Iridium for Ipad?

Hi all

I am not sure this is the right forum, but can someone tell what is the preferred solution to integrate IPAD's to an existing netlinx system?

Thanks,

Ady.

I don't know if anyone has tried them side by side or both at different times. The TPC app is very nice but pricey. Since I think AMX gets a cut it helps them which in turn should help us. The iRidium is I think 1/3 the price and from everything I've read it is as good if not better.

I have used the TPControl on about a dozen jobs and it works fantastic. There are still a few minor font issues but other than that it acts just like an AMX panel.

I have not used Iridium, though I just spoke to someone yesterday who was initially very impressed, but said that it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but he did say he would not be using it again.

    Hope this helps!

I have both installed on my iPhone 3G. I have only worked with basic buttons and feedback so far. At this point, I would recommend iRidium. It starts faster and has a better connection method. The only noticable difference is that iRidium doesn't have the default button hit sound.

I have tried both on a demo basis, and I thought the Iridium looked terrible at iPad resolutions ... but that might just be because it was the demo. TPControl looked like the better of the two on that basis, though it didn't have all the slickness of some iThing features, like draggable scrolling, flippable aspect orientation, etc.
  • It doesn't seem right to judge the product based on the appearance of a "stretched" interface or the look o a demo. At the end o the day, the demo is only there for as long as it takes you to upload your first design, at the right resolution and with your preferred look and feel.
Back to the question, I have given enough time to both of them to say that they are both great products, and the development teams are very supportive with correcting bugs and implementing new features.

However, both of them have minor discrepancies in behaving exactly as a native touch panel, and your original designs and code will have to be adjusted to compensate for these in both cases.

And, most of it, which I hate most, they are both at the mercy of a third party hardware/software "dictator" (not AMX) therefore some of their best intentions might just not happen, or long term compatibility and reliability might be out of their hands.

Although I agree in principle, I think it a bad sign to even release a demo in such a state. It gave me the impression that they weren't trying very hard.

I use Iridium. Once you upload the correct file, it is native resolution and looks just as good as anything else.

It starts up and loads fast, very responsive. It also is able to use lists which AMX never was able to make work. I haven't tried creating a list, but I have downloaded the demo on my iPad and it worked well..

Thank you all for the info
  • For my 2 cents, I have tried both the Iridum and TPControl.

TPControl for me wins hands down, its completely transparent and really very straight forward.
I would recommend it to anyone.
