MVP series USB connection

Has anyone developed a fool-proof method of establishing an intial USB connection with the MVP series panels?

I cannot seem to find a consistent procedure that works well every time I setup a new panel for a project. I have tried re-booting and connecting devices in different sequences, and also toggling the connection type on the panel.

I dont have any problems working with any other USB devices.

Maybe someone else has experienced the same issue.

Maybe this is why I seem to scrap the USB and go wireless in the end.

Thanks.

I experienced the problem when tried to upload from TPDesign4 to panel. The only solution for me was to unplug and plug the USB connector on computer side, when the application was looking for panels available online (usually it took up to 10 sec to find the panel after toggling the connector).

I had the same problem today, and decided to just go wireless. The only time you have to avoid wireless transfers is when you are updating the firmware. Other than that, you're safe as long as you smart transfer. The smart transfer can survive being interupted because it is only updating panel files that don't match what's in the panel already.
I don't know what the deal is with the USB thing. I didn't spend too much time on it. Post back if you figure it out?

    Good luck,

This is the way I do the USB thing with a MVP and it seems to work every time..

    1. Set TP4 for <Virtual Master>
    2. Set MVP to Connect USB, Reboot MVP
    3. Connect USB Cable
  • The key is that the USB cable needs to remain unconnected from the touchpanel until it has booted up. If you connect the USB cable prior to the panel booting up you'll never be able to get it to connect. Upgrading the panel to the latest firmware will also help with some other USB issues. Also, make sure you don't have any software firewalls blocking communications via the NI or virtual Master.

    As Frankie mentioned above,

    1) Launch software
    2) Boot MVP (make sure it's set to USB connection under Protected Setup)
    3) Once software is launched, connect to the virtual master
    4) After panel has completely booted up, THEN connect the USB cable to the panel.
    5) Communications to the panel should be established within about 10 seconds.

From AMX technote "USB connection to work on MVP or CV7 panels". Do a search to find full article.

1, Disconnect the USB cable from the touch panel.
    2, Reboot your PC.
3, While your PC is rebooting, change the touch panel connection type to USB, and reboot the touch panel.
4, When both the PC and the touch panel are fully booted, plug in the USB cable.
5, Open up TPD4 or NetLinx Studio 2 and set the connection type to "Virtual NetLinx Master".
6, 15-30 seconds? the panel should appear online (TPD4).

I just had the pleasure of doing this for the first time because my MVP no longer wants to communicate via TCP/IP so I was hoping a firmware update might help. It didn't.

If you do the above you'll get AMX USB device connected and If this is your first time you should also get a found new hardware device pop-up in windows. The first window you can ignore (search for drivers?) but the second which I believe asks you install new software (not actually sure what it said) check the radio button to install the "AMX LAN LINK software (USB DRIVER) " (again I'm not sure what it actually said).

Once the driver is installed open NetLinx Studio 2 >Settings>Master Communication Settings & set to virtual.

Then go to Tools>Firmware Tranfers>Send to Netlinx Device and make sure you put in the right D:P:S

I skipped over the install driver section (windows pop-up) several time assuming the driver was built into TPD4 and NS2 or installed with them but when I finally read what the pop-up was asking there was indeed a driver file to transfer.
