Saving CF images using Winhex and Roadkill softwares

I am trying to take up a backup of the CF images of NXT and Modero panels. I am able to take images of NI controllers and load it to another CF cards without any issues. But when i do the same for touch panels, it doesnt work. My CF card is 4GB.
I also got ubuntu and knoppix boot dvds but i am not able to detect the usb card reader to take an image properly.
