Strings from G3 Panels through vdvs

When creating G3 panels, you have the option for a string output from a button push under the button properties dialogue. It seems that when you combine the actual TP with a virtual TP for Netlinx programming, the string output does not come in as a string data event from the vdv.
I don't know of many people who use the string output feature of G3 panels, but I found it quite handy for making TV channel preset buttons. You could easily change the preset channels for buttons by editing the panel, never touching the code.
Does anyone know if there is a way to get string outputs from G3 panels to pass through to virtual Netlinx panels?
