Is AMX an acronym?

I'll probably be shot down for asking this, but what exactly does AMX stand for? A client asked me the other day, and although I have been using AMX products for nearly 15 years, I had to admit that I didn't have a clue!

    I don?t ?think? it?s an acronym for anything. This is what AMX returns at acronymfinder.com:

    Automatic Message Exchange
    Analog Multiplexing (theatrical lighting)
    American Motors Experimental
    Amberjacks (FAO fish species code)
    Alabama Motor eXpress
    Air Mobility Express
    Aeromexico Aerovias de Mexico (ICAO code)

    I?d be interested in the origin myself. Where is Scott Miller when you need him? :D

    When taking my training course some years back, our trainer said it meant 'Another Million tries' :)

    AMX once stood for American Multiplex. Today, it has no acronym.

    I'll second that.

    Of course it could have been Another Miller eXperiment.

    in the back of an older price guide it said it was a measurment of control. huh?

    I once heard Scott Miller say it stood for 'American Motor Controllers'
    as that was the first product he built in his garage??

    They gave the answer in the last newsletter but I don't recall what it said.

    Rex Smith, veteran AMXer of AMX Southeast Sales was the first to reply with the correct answer:

    "AMX once stood for American Multiplex. Today, it has no acronym."

    Long ago, Ros Miller told me it stood for American MultipleX.
    But "Another Miller eXperiment" is a popular humorous explanation of the acronym that I've heard more than a few times.

    According to http://www.rane.com/pronames.html

    AMX Modified initials for the company's original name: Advanced Microcomputer Systems, but due to conflicts with the other "AMS" (above), they made it "AMX" -- changed to Panja in 1999, then back to AMX in 2001.
