Naming signals from Vi6 using CobraNet

I have inherited a London system running with an old Soundcraft 500 console. We will be upgrading to a Vi6 soon and I need to understand how to send inputs to the London system via CobraNet. Vi6 is not in the Architect library and obviously I would like to set up names for the input channels. The training software I downloaded does not give any options for naming signals short of setting up output devices from the library. Will the Vi series of desks be added to the library soon?

The Vi6 will never be added to London Architect. There is currently no way to assign a name to signals which come in on an external CobraNet bundle. The next version of London Architect will include an object which allows the renaming of signals. You will be able to place this object immediately after the incoming CobraNet node and use it to assign signal names.

  • Thanks, Dan. That clears up a lot of questions for me. Now I can move on to the rest of the system design feeling like I actually know a little about what I'm doing. :)
  • Really, that sounds pretty cool. Much better than having to insert summers to set the names of signals...

BTW, can you give us a list of new features in the next release. We have a few blu-80 jobs in the near future, and would love to not have to reinvent the wheel.

I could, but then I'd be unemployed. The audio coupler is a minor addition, so I know that nobody will get their shorts in a twist because I talked about it. Also, it's highly unlikely that such a simple PO could cause a conflict with other features. This means that it's unlikely to get cut at the last minute and I'm unlikely to look like a dork for mentioning it.

Not everything fits into those categories though, which is why I can't/don't talk about things like the great-googly-moogly processing object which is coming soon or control groups (even cooler than the name suggests) or improvements like not having to reboot the device when you change the IP address (not that I'm saying that feature is coming. Just a generic example, of course).
