9088 rs232 connection issue

good afternoon,

my 1st post, having trailed the forum ive found information thats helped me try to get my laptop to talk to my 9088 but so far no avail.

Im using a SUB to serial convertor, this i know is working as it talks to my other RS232 devices.
I have a Null cable with pins 2/3 crossed with each other, and pin 5 is ground (im informed that the web will run on just 3 connections?)

I have the comms set to COMPORT4 as per my other devices, baud rate is set the same, other than that im at a loss.
No LEDs on unit are flashing or lit- any ideas?

Many thanks

Dan

Are you trying to connect to the fron or the rear port on the Soundweb?

What baud rate are you trying to use?

What message do you get from Designer when you try to go on line?

Is this a new Sounweb, or has it been in use already, possibly with some type of control system attached to the rear port?

What baud rate are you trying to use? all rates available on windows device and soundweb

What message do you get from Designer when you try to go on line?- check serial and comms settings

come from an install- was used from front connection-

really struggling with this- i dont think the unit is faulty, its either the usb/serial device or something im missing-

sorry dont think that worked :)

have tried both front and rear ports, all available baud rates, error message says to check comms and serial connections, and unit came from a working install- guy tested it thru the front port-

just a point can i run the web from a TX, RX and ground connection only?
Many people are telling me that the soundweb software is very retentive and it can be very picky with certain things

  • Whilst testing USB to serial converters, I only found one manufacturers products that would not work with Soundweb, Belkin. Every other converter I tested worked fine with no special setup requirements (note that wasn't an exhaustive test).

Double check your hardware config to make sure that the port is set to one of com ports 1-4. Don't worry about baud rate settings here, the ones you setup in Soundweb Designer will over-ride them.

Go to the comms setting in Soundweb Designer and choose the appropriate com port, set the baud rate to 38400 for the front port.

If that doesn't work I'd suggest your USB adapter is incompatible or you have a serial cable / Soundweb hardware issue.

If you get the message that the serial port isn't available, you also need to check for other software on laptop \"stealing\" your Comm port, I have had several other programs do this on my PC.

I'm using a PC Card serial adapter on my laptop to avoid any possible issues with USB adapters, but most people I know have had good luck with the USB approach.

Are you using a real BSS cable to talk to the front port? You might need to either tie RTS to CTS together at the Soundweb (Pins 1 and 2 on the mini DIN) and at the computer, or better yet bring them out to your computer for proper operation. The pinouts are available in the help file. I've never tried running Designer without hooking up RTS and CTS, I would have to think that BSS wouldn't have brought them out on the connector unless they did something.

    Good luck.

thanks to everyone who helped, had people calling as well, nice to know lots of help out there

my next project is to run the web control down thru the multicore-
now currently im using 5 core RS232- anyway emulating the handshake the web needs and just running the TX,RX and grnd down the multicore.

    regards,
