running soundweb and \"other\" rs232 LMS

Ive recently upgraded to a new laptop(vista)
Ironically the soundweb worked straight away on the USB - serial adaptor-
however my other LMS doesnt- think this could be the serial-usb adaptor or the software for vista-

anyhow, its got me thinking, as both units are stage end, is there anyway of running say one cable (lan/ethernet) from my laptop down to the racks into a \"box\" that will convert to 2 totally independant RS232 ports- perhaps theres a different way?

Currently i was running the soundweb FOH and running the audio through the multi, and the other LMS was run down the multi (3 core rs232)

I know very little bout computers, audio yes, computers no!
Is it possible to run two different programs at the same time, all connected and online, and just toggle between the 2 devices?

any help or guidance is greatly appreciated.

    Hi ,

Moxa do a device server that sits on ethernet and allows 2 RS232 ports.

    http://www.moxa.com/product/NPort_5210.htm

It ships with management software that lets you set up the 232 ports as com ports on your PC. You then assign your device software to the same com port number.

They do a number of other products if you want more options, check out their website.

    Cheers

    ok,

appear to have got it all working now using the usb-serial dongle-

    so my next question

soundweb requires handshaking, unlike other devices such as XTA, xilica.
Is there anyway of running the soundweb without handshaking ie just TX , RX and GND.
can the DB9 connector be wired in such as way that the soundweb thinks its getting handshakes?

I read somewhere you can wire TX to the TX handshake, RX to the RX handshake- is this true?

if so does anyone have the pinout?

basically i want to control the soundweb over RS232 down one of the lines of my multicore

    many thanks
