9088 + +9008ii stopped working

Got a 9008ii expander with the idea of running 8 lines of audio over it instead of a multi.
Well the unit arrived, was messing about with software as you do, and the 9008ii has become unresponsive over RS232- i know the RS232 works as i plug it into the 9088 and it works- the comm setting are exactly the same in the preferences.
When i just plug the power in the 9008ii the activity light flashes randomly-
whats happened to it?
can and how do i fix it-
tried the bootloader but of course the 9008ii cant see the connection

Are you using the rear 232 connection?
Have you set the rear connection up to to work with AMX or so that it can control the BSS Video switcher?
Normally in this mode the activity LED will blink as it is pinging the AMX controller.

If so you need to comm to the unit over the front port.

Can you see the unit when you have both units networked and you are connected on the 9088.

im trying to use the rear RS232- i only have cables for the rear- how do i change it to RS232?

I havnt been able to get the 9088 + 9008 to talk together,
I dont know much bout the soundwebs- im assuming that when all is working i can talk to both units over the network connection?

    Hi,

If you connect the 232 to the 9088 and have the 9088 and 9008 networked together, then all network devices will be seen.

Read the help file to see how the 232 port is configured for external control

    thats the problem

When i connect the 9088 and 9008 together the 9008 isnt seen-
I cant even get them to network-
Im using a standard CAt5 pin to pin- and nothing.

on the front of the 9008 the activity LED is flashing mega fast, even with nothing plugged into or out of it- surely thats not right.

    what to do?

You might try going inot \"debug\" mode and using the backup loader to reinstall the firmware in the unit. You can downlaod firmware from the BSS website.

You will need to find a cable to communicate via the front port.

Take the top cover of the unit off and locate the debug pins, which are somewhere near the center of the main circuit board. With the power to the unit off, jumper the pins together, then apply power. After things settle down in the unit, you should hopefully be seeing the front panel LEDs chasing across the panel.

At this point, you should be able to run the backup loader (backuploader.exe) and load the appropriate backup firmware for your system. Make sure the comm port setting in backup loader matches the comm port on your computer, and you need to be on the front Soundweb port. You can ignore the MIDI channel setting in the backup loader program.

MAKE SURE that you load the right firmware file. I can tell you from hard experience that it is really bad to load the wrong firmware !!

Once the upload is complete, you can power down the Soundweb, remove the jumper and then repower the Soundweb. With luck, you should then be able to load your application again - it worked for us.

Also, when you connect the two units together, don't create a full circle when patching the units, just use one cord from the OUT of one unit to the IN of the other unit. The return path is \"virtual\" and should not be a physical connection. Interconnecting units is covered in the Help file.

    Hope this helps.

    hi

it seems the plot is thickening- i finally got both units to work via network earlier today, then after about 20 mins the sound began to sound distorted, had a poke around couldnt find anything, it started again, then the 9008 stopped talking to the 9088-
from the 9088 to the 9008 the sync LED on 9088 lights up solid, nothing on the front of the 9008-

if i do it round the other way LED is solid on the 9008 and nothing on the 9088-
im really beginning to lose faith in soundwebs, having nothing but trouble with them-

    anyone?

    Is this a new unit?

If so you should not be having any issues.
If you want to get this resolved, contact BSS tech support directly and i am sure they will be able to advise you of how to repair the unit within minutes.

It sounds like you have an older unit, and for some reason the network ports have gone intermittent.

This is user group is designed as a non technical support forum for non critical issues.

You have a hardware issue with either the 9088 or 9008 units, either in the power supply or network ports.

I suggest you talk to BSS in the UK and find out if you need to factory refurb the units.

    look up the contacts here

    Thanks

  • Hi,

I'm in the UK and can support you with the software configuration of the unit if required, just drop me a message.

If you're having this much trouble simply getting the network sync LEDs to light then either you have a genuine hardware failure (contact Sound Technology), the firmware in the units has been screwed up (refer to the post by 'weastham' regarding debug mode) or the CAT5 cable you're using is damaged.

Getting two Soundwebs to network is absolutely not difficult or challenging in any way, so if you're having these problems, somethings wrong, you've just got to contact the right people. These forums are not monitored by BSS for tech support purposes.

    Hope some of this helps.
