COBRANET - BLU 80

I would like to know how do we connect multicast with the cobranet and how many can be connected from a single outpt to a crown amplifier? Simple elaborated answer wold be really appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but I'll try to answer.

Physical connection: Multicast CobraNet is no different than any other CobraNet. Each device needs its own connection to the network switch. Multicast does create a lot more network traffic which means you need a better switch, but it's all connected the same way.

Programming: Every CobraNet bundle has a number. If that number is in the range of 1 to 255, then the CobraNet hardware will treat that bundle as a multicast bundle. That means the bundle will be immediately transmitted (using broadcast ethernet packets) to every device on the network. If the bundle number is 256 or above, that bundle will be treated as unicast which means it is transmitted nowhere until it is requested. Upon request, the bundle will be sent directly to the requesting device.

Receivers: A 100Mb/sec network can handle 8 multicast bundles as long as you're not using any unicast bundles. This would mean that you would have 8 multicast bundles arriving at each Crown amp. A CobraNet node is only able to process 4 bundles at one time, so only 4 of those 8 bundles could actually be used for anything.

If you really want detailed answers regarding your specific system, you should contact GSL Professional in Dubai. Their contact info is here: http://www.bssaudio.com/distributors.php?country_id=92
If the system is being installed somewhere else, you can go to that same page and select a different country from the dropdown list.

Thanks so much Dan. One more thing i would like to ask is that, can different zones be connected for PA using this muticast applications or is it necessary for each zone to be unicast? Also is there any diagram that you could send across based on the multicast connection to the crown amp? That will be prove to be a better understanding for me :D . Thanks once again for your help.

I don't know how your zones are defined, but a multicast bundle goes to every device on the network. If all of your power amps are on the same network, they will all receive the same multicast bundle(s).

Remember, multicast bundles don't care if the device wants to receive them or not. They are transmitted using broadcast ethernet packets which means that the switches will send them to every device with no exceptions. They go everywhere on a switched network, no matter what. The devices all receive them and you just have to tell the devices if they're supposed to use them or not.

  • Hi,
If you want restrict your packet to be sent to particular zones, you can use unicat option & in the properties make number of recievers 4 ( i belive 4 is the max nunber)
