BLU 8 single mode preset recall

Hello all you clever folks!!
Is there a workaround getting the 8 positions to work as preset recallers in single mode.
what i need is to have the blu 8 to trigger 7 presets and 2 mute buttons momentary in 1 page.

In advance thank you

  • In single page mode you can only use source selector on the 8 position rotary.

Change Blu-8 to 4 page mode and on the first page have your 7 presets on the rotary and first mute on the volume knob AND LED ladder, on second page put the same 7 presets on the rotary and second mute on the volume knob and LED.
You will want to edit the LED colors to be a good indicator of when the mute is on.

If you really want to use single page mode you need to work with a source selector. Here is how I did it- (I'm sure there is a simpler way, but we don't have unlimited design time so I just ran with this idea and it worked).

    1. Use a tone generator feeding all inputs of a 7-channel gain block.
    2. In the gain block trim the gains 1-7 in 5 dB steps. First gain 0dB, second -5dB and so on.
    3. Put a 7 position source selector on the outputs of the gain block and hook up 7 trigger meters to the output of the source selector.
    4. Set the sensitivity of the trigger meters so that they go over 0 as you select each source on your source selector. The first meter will be at -1 dB, second at -6dB, third at -11dB and so on.
    5. Create 7 logic sources in logic section of your DSP and connect them to a preset table with 7 inputs.
    6. In design tree find your trigger meters and drag the trigger SV of each meter on one logic source.
    7. In preset table find the states with the 1111111, 0111111, 0011111 and so on, and assign your presets to those states.
    8. finally, drag the source selector on the Blu-8.

Now as you select sources, you get different meters to light up. First source will light up all 7 meters, second source will light up 6 meters, third source will light up 5 meters. These combinations will trigger your presets.

It's a round-about way of recalling presets on Blu-8, but it worked for me before- although I only had 4 presets to recall.

The good thing about this method is that the source selector state will propagate to other user controls, where as straight preset recall will not.

I swear I'm not doing this on purpose but... there's an eaiser way. *cringe*

Put in a Source Selector object on the audio configuration page linked to a Logic Value object on the logic page and assign the audio source selector to the BLU-8.

Tie the outputs of the Logic Value to some preset triggers and you're done. The BLU-8 will change source selector which will change the value of the Logic Value.

Note that the first output on the Logic Value = the NONE position on the source selector, but it's easy to work with one you see it in action. Basically, you'll need an 8 ch source selector but a 9 position Logic Value.

  • That's really useful that you can link things across panels now. I had to look up the help files on how to do it, because it's a newer functionality, but it works well. This will make my life a little easier.
I have a system to program with 48 ins, 80 outs, 8 Blu controlers and lots of zones. This will definitely get used.

By the way, I asked similar question last Summer:

I wish I knew this functionality back then before using meters for logic sources.

 Super thank you also new to me about the value object. it is now working great.

Is there a way of programming the leds on the left rotary. i would like to have the selected source in a different colour instead of just more bright? and could be possible to use some of the led´s in the meter for signal warnings etc. or is that only possible by using signal generators, modulators, and duckers?
    Best regards Jonas

It's not possible to control the color of individual LEDs on the rotary selector or the meter.

Well i thought so. It would be nice though.

OOPS! I was wrong. It's not possible to individually control the LEDs on the rotary selector, but you can change the color of the LEDs on the meter. Click on the meter and then look in properties. Under Style, you'll see Advanced Setup. Click on that and you'll be able to change how the meter reacts at each stage.
