Lost Gallery database

My computer mysteriously turned off while I had Architect running. On re-start Architect would not recover the last open file. I opened the file from the last saved state, but now my gallery is gone- it's back to default state.
I had a bunch of custom controls and bitmaps that I made over last few years. Can I recover them?
Here is the error I got when trying to use the old gallery.

  • It's a ballache and not a perfect fix but if you have access to the design files which contain your missing gallery objects, you can select them and re-add them back in to the new (empty) gallery file using Gallery > Add Selected Objects.

Graham may have a better idea....
  • Email your user.gal file to tech support along with an explanation of what happened and ask that your file be checked to see if recovery of it is possible.

I know, but it's a PITA to open all of my old designs looking for controls and buttons. Especially since I might have tweaked some of them from one project to another and removed the older versions from gallery.
But, it will probably end up being just that.
  • I did say it was a ballache and not a perfect fix.....
  • So I went to recover some of my custom controls and bitmaps, and found that custom bitmaps don't persist in the gallery after being added from an existing design.

I select a custom bitmap in a older design, go to gallery> add selected objects, name it, it will appear in the gallery tree, and it might or might not be available to use right away- dragging it back on the page sometimes results in nothing showing up.

On restart of Architect, that bitmap name will be gone from the gallery all together.

If I find the original graphic used and add the same bitmap to the gallery from a windows directory it works as expected.

It could have something to do with the versions of Architect the files were saved, but I don't have time to investigate all the possibilities. It's something the coders might want to look at sometime in the future.
  • Correct. Images added to the gallery from a design file are only available while that design file is open.

Normally, I post things like this as an edit to the original message, but this one seemed important enough to actually make it a new post. This problem is completely eliminated by LA v3.02r2 or later. Gallery objects used in your design file will now appear in the \"Design\" section of the gallery if they don't exist in the \"User\" section of the gallery. You no longer need to worry about loosing gallery items.
