32 vs. 64 bit and Serial control

Hi all,
Looks like I need a new computer.
So, is Windows 7 Home vs Pro an issue for LA use? (I suspect it is not)
How about 32 bit vs 64 bit OS's?
Also, I need to continue to maintain clients SW Green based systems so I need Serial control. I know there are no new computers with serial ports, and even my old Dell only had a PCMCIA slot, but the new ones only have Express slots, and I don't believe my PCMCIA to Serial card will work in the express slot, will it?
Looks like it's time for a serial device ethernet server...
Comments?
thanks all!

We use a ethernet USB server, and it works pretty well, but not all devices are supported; however, I suspect you'll have a lot less issue with a simple serial. I use a USB serial bridge on my laptop, and that works well too.
a full PCMCIA card won't fit in an express card slot, unless it's a \"full size\" slot; however, it will fit in a \"full size\" slot. Most \"express\" card slots today are the smaller size...
