DPR 504 Quad Gate operation

I recently picked up a pair of these and am a little confused on some of the features. What is the proper use of the Key Filter section? Due to the verbage of the instruction manual, I'm thinking it only applies as a side-chain function but I've seen some other info that indicates that it is used to fine tune the freq. I'm gating. Any help out there? :?:

Yes and yes. It only applies to the sidechain and is used to fine tune the frequency... of the sidechain. It's a highpass and a lowpass on the sidechain only. If the freq is set to 1k and the width is set to 10 (octaves), then it's doing nothing and the sidechain signal is identical to the audio signal you're hearing. If you crank the width down to 1 (octave) and leave the freq at 1k, then the sidechain is only hearing a 1 octave chunk in the middle of your signal centered at 1k. The filter only effects the sidechain signal and not the audio audio that you hear on the outputs.
